An address to the nations

Submitted by martinleech on Sat, 09/05/2020 - 19:49

Tomorrow evening there will be a 'Ministerial Broadcast by the Prime Minister'. Mr Johnson will address the nation about the steps, or road map, the Government is putting in place to start to relax the lockdown measures. We hope the measures will be clear and straightforward to follow, and that they will get the right balance between, on the one hand, starting the nation off on the route out of lockdown and, on the other hand, not risking the coronavirus starting to spread rapidly again...

The king's heart

The Government faces the unenviable task of steering the country out of the lockdown. Doubtless, there has been widespread consultation amongst experts and advisors from the caring services, utilities, university researchers, government departments, transport, education and the many sectors of the economy. I assume that the way other countries are facing this complex matter will be scrutinised to see what lessons can be learned. The list is now available separately and you can click here to view it. I suggest that every day you take a few of these suggestions and use them in your own prayers along, of course, with your own thoughts. This is a time for renewed commitment to prayer.

Book of the month - 'Coronavirus and Christ'

I was reminded in the week that we have not had a book of the month in April. However, we have one for May! As this is our first book of the month since the pandemic took hold, I have chosen John Piper's small book entitled 'Coronavirus and Christ'. Rather appropriately for our present online circumstances, this book can be downloaded to be read on ebook readers or listened to as an audiobook. It is offered free of charge and is not a long read, but it is worthwhile.
